Twenty years ago, in a modest shop in West Bengal, Soma Ghosh Pal threaded her first needle.
She didn't start with a brand. She started with a sewing machine, a handful of customers, and the quiet belief that every woman deserves to feel beautifully, unapologetically herself.
The early years were tailoring — alterations, custom stitches, blouses sewn long into the night for weddings and festivals. Then came unstitched suits — each one measured, cut, and tailored by hand for the woman who'd come to trust her. Sari fall-picos, kurta fittings, last-minute adjustments an hour before the function. The business grew one stitch, one returning customer, one word-of-mouth recommendation at a time.
Growth didn't come easy. Soma faced the struggles countless women entrepreneurs know too well — limited capital, doubtful eyes, the weight of balancing a home and a business no one expected her to run.
But she stayed. She learned. She expanded.
Today, that same shop has become Style by Her — a curated boutique offering ready-made kurtis, flowing gowns, elegant one-pieces, and modern western wear. Twenty years of listening to women has shaped everything we stock: silhouettes that flatter real bodies, fabrics that last, designs that carry you from a working day to a wedding evening.

But the story didn't stop at retail.
Style by Her is a women-run store. Our team of five — all women — is made of staff Soma mentored, trained, and gave a place to earn their own income. For many of them, this store was their first job, their first taste of financial independence, their first step into a life of their own choosing.
We also believe in giving back. Garments that don't sell are never wasted — each season, we donate unsold pieces to women in need across our community. A portion of our proceeds goes to local charities that support girls' education and women's health.
Soma's dream was never to build the biggest boutique. It was to build one that mattered.
